Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo are facing potential blacklisting from the music industry. This situation arose due to their failure to attend a meeting organized by the Uganda National Cultural Center (UNCC).
The duo was summoned on Monday, the 9th, but chose not to attend, despite the UNCC gathering at the National Theatre.
The vice-chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Phina Mugerwa, expressed that they decided to implement resolutions because the two artists demonstrated a lack of respect in their absence.
She announced that they would instruct all media outlets to refrain from playing the artists’ songs. Furthermore, they would be prohibited from performing at any events, and any promoter booking them would not receive police clearance. In addition, they have alerted the police to summon the artists to provide statements.
“It’s time for everyone to recognize that we have associations tasked with regulating the arts. The failure of these artists to attend the dialogue we convened has left us with little choice but to blacklist them from receiving airplay on media platforms. We have also informed the police to call them in for statements. Moreover, any promoter who hires these artists will not receive police clearance,” stated Phina.
This decision follows criticism aimed at both artists for releasing songs considered vulgar and inappropriate for younger audiences. However, both musicians asserted that they have not committed any wrongdoing and were merely expressing their artistry.
