Kawempe North member of Parliament Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya has today on the 9th of January 2025 breathed his last at Rubaga Hospital aged just 37 years.
The MP had been receiving treatment in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for the past few days.
There was panic in the morning after it was initially reported that he had passed away. Several news outlets covered the story, and different tributes were poured in.
NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine however said that Ssegirinya was only experiencing brain death and various vital organs. He was yet to be pronounced dead by the Hospital. It was his mother who communicated to the Party that he had died.
A little bit of hope was restored but eventually, the MP was pronounced dead by the Hospital. A statement from Rubaga Hospital read that the hospital tried to do all it could to resuscitate the MP but all efforts proved futile. Bobi Wine has now announced that the MP’s burial plans will be communicated in due time.
“The hospital has now confirmed that Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya has passed on at 12:10 pm. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un!”

Ssegirinya’s rise to fame started during his time as the lord councilor for Kawempe between 2016-21. He was widely known as Mr. Update on Facebook where he had a large following and acted as a platform for his rise from grass to grace.
His health status however deteriorated in 2021 when he was arrested alongside fellow MP Hon Allan Ssewanyana. The two were accused of masterminding the killings which took place in Greater Masaka. After spending close to two years behind bars, they were finally released.
Since then, he’s been in and out of hospital in the Netherlands, Kenya as well as Uganda till his last breath. Not much has been known about his family apart from his mother.
May his soul rest in peace.
