Singer turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has attacked fellow musicians, accusing them of being paid to act foolishly.
The Firebase boss stated that President Museveni’s government sidelined him from the music scene, while other artists remained silent because they believed it was not their concern. However, now they are experiencing the same degradation and are powerless to act because they have compromised their integrity in exchange for financial gain.
The ‘Kiwani’ artist highlighted the recent embarrassment faced by artists like Raga Dee and OS Suuna when they visited Gulu to meet Saleh. According to the president of NUP, these musicians are unable to challenge the regime as they have been financially ensnared.
“It’s unfortunate that many musicians prioritize their financial needs over their morals. Many of them used to be respected figures, but that’s no longer the case since they compromised their dignity. Remember when the country struggled with poor service delivery, and the government allotted 30 billion shillings to musicians without justification? This was not done out of affection from the government but rather to trap them. It was disheartening to see talented individuals like Ragga Dee and OS Suuna humiliated in Gulu,” Bobi Wine remarked.
Furthermore, the self-proclaimed Ghetto Gladiator pointed out that there is a significant reason the government opposes the passing of the copyright law. This law would financially empower musicians, thereby eliminating the government’s control over them.
He urged musicians to unite and advocate for their rights because those in positions of power disregard them and view them as insignificant.
